PROCESS
CONCEPT: For this project, we had to illustrate what came to mind when listening to a select song. The song that I had was incredibly fun and upbeat. It almost seemed liked the music instantly made you want to bounce up and down in a rhythmic beat. This is a song that would stop anyone in their tracks, no matter what background, style, or aesthetic, and make you dance! So that is what I wanted to convey in this piece. My initial idea was to try and capture that energy in the song with color and movement.
INSPIRATION: I was initially inspired by bright colors and bold patterns as I was trying to understand what could convey the energy that the song exuded. I researched styles of dancing and studied different ways artists apply color in movement.
PLAN OF ACTION: I started looking at dynamic dance poses and trying to take those references and turn those into my own animated characters. I tried many different variations of colors and styles, but was still struggling to capture the essence of the song.
REVISIONS: After talking to my professors and getting feedback from my class, the best move seemed to be to create more of a "pattern" with the characters instead of putting them into an environment. This helped my to try a lot of different variations.
RESULTS: Since I have such a large library of dancers and different variations of colors, I was able to create different products on Society6 and Redbubble.
